Sri Lanka or its official name Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka is an island nation in the southeastern coast of India. Until 1972, the country is known by the name of Ceylon, the name given to the period of British colonialism. The island is also known by the name of Lanka, Lankadeepa, Simoundou, Taprobane, Serendib and Selan. Sri Lanka became independent on February 4, 1948 and is a member of the commonwealth countries.
Due to its location in the middle of the ocean laluan main roads, Sri Lanka is a strategic sea link between West Asia and Southeast Asia, and is a center of Buddhist religion and cultures since ancient times.
